NAEYC STANDARDS AND PROOF WITH MY WORK

STANDARD 1: Promoting Child Development and Learning
Students prepared in early childhood degree programs are grounded in a child development knowledge base. They use their understanding of young children's characteristics and needs and the multiple interacting influences on children's development and learning to create healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging environments for each child.

Rational Statement: Attached are classroom material lists for toddlers and preschool classrooms. Promoting a safe learning environment is key to a successful classroom. Children need many different items/toys in the classroom to manipulate and play with. Evolving the children's interest in the class is a huge part of this.

STANDARD 2: Building Family and Community Relationships

The students of early childhood degree programs understand the importance of partnering with families and communities to provide successful early childhood education. Families and communities are essential to them, valued and understood. Using this understanding, they foster respectful, reciprocal relationships that empower and support families and involve them in their children's development and learning.

Rational Statement: Attached is a sample monthly newsletter I would send home in class. I feel it is very important to keep parents up to date with learning and class activities and to involve every family as much as they would like.

STANDARD 3: Observing, Documenting, and Assessing to Support Young Children and Families

Students enrolled in early childhood degree programs will thoroughly understand the objectives, benefits, and uses of child observation, documentation, and other assessment forms. Their knowledge of systematic observations, documentation, and other effective assessment strategies, used in collaboration with families and other professionals, helps them positively influence each child's development.

Rational Statement: My review paper for the Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) substantiates this standard. This ASQ assessment was written based on my observation in a preschool classroom. I learned so much about observing children in every area of learning. ASQ is an invaluable tool for educators to ensure a safe, loving, and enjoyable classroom environment. As a result, it also helps ensure that you are teaching developmentally appropriate lessons.

STANDARD 4: Using Developmentally Effective Approaches to Connect with Children and Families

Students prepared in early childhood degree programs recognize that teaching and learning with young children is a complex enterprise. Its details vary according to children's ages, characteristics, and the settings within which teaching and learning take place. They understand and use positive relationships and supportive interactions in their work with young children and families. The students can identify, understand, and use developmentally appropriate approaches, instructional strategies, and tools to positively influence each child's learning and development.

STANDARD 5: Using Content Knowledge to Build a Meaningful Curriculum

Students preparing for early childhood degree programs use their knowledge of academic disciplines to design, implement, and evaluate experiences that promote positive development and learning. Students understand the importance of development domains and academic (or content) disciplines in an early childhood curriculum. They know the essential concepts, inquiry tools, and structure of content areas, including academic subjects, and can identify resources to deepen their understanding. Students use their knowledge and other resources to design, implement, and evaluate meaningful, challenging curricula promoting comprehensive development and learning outcomes for every young child.

Rational Statement: Using the Key Developmental Indicators, also known as K.D.I.s, I followed the instructions for creating lesson plans for toddlers and preschoolers. These lessons help teachers determine which areas children enjoy and need more experience in. The K.D.I.s go in depth about each subject so teachers can determine if a student is struggling in that learning area. They can also plan lessons around Key Developmental Indicators.

STANDARD 6: Becoming a Professional

Students prepared in early childhood degree programs identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession. They know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards for early childhood education. As continuous, collaborative learners, they demonstrate a clear understanding of their work, a critical perspective on it, and the ability to make informed decisions based on multiple perspectives. They are informed advocates for sound educational policies and practices.

Rational Statement: I have attached my education philosophy in standard 6. I believe it is essential for teachers to follow their teaching philosophy. I developed my education philosophy through my internships. I took what I liked and disliked from them and made it my own. I will do developmentally appropriate activities and follow the ethical code.
